Founder/ Managing director
Dev Maharaj was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa during 1987 and practised for many years during the dark days of apartheid as a human rights lawyer representing many activists and high profile political figures, some of whom join the country’s administration after democracy was achieved. He was one of the early members of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL) and was appointed some time ago as the organisations Projects Officer and remains a member of that organisation till this day.As he came from a well-known business family, it was inevitable that he would have a propensity towards a commercial law practice, having represented many well-known industrialists in the KZN Midlands area. His business acumen was noticed at an early stage when his firm was appointed to the legal panel of the erstwhile Fedgen Insurance Company for whom he litigated for a number of years.
His penchant for insurance litigation saw his firm becoming the first firm of colour in the country to be admitted to the legal panel of the Road Accident Fund during 1997 and he still represents the RAF to this day.As an accomplished senior commercial litigation attorney, Dev excels in complex matters and has no difficulty in handling high profile transactions. In this regard he has represented the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) for a number of years in their high-risk matters which experience will hold him in good stead as the firm now represents the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as well as the Independent Development Trust (IDT) all of whom are development agencies.
